Cadillac is a luxury car marque that is owned by the General Motors Company. Cadillac automobiles are marketed in more than fifty territories and countries, but chiefly in the North America.
At present, Cadillac is the oldest American vehicle producer and one of the top vehicle brands around the globe. It was founded in the year 1902 as Cadillac Automobile Company and was bought by General Motors in the year 1909. Over the subsequent thirty years, it ascertained itself as the leading luxury automobile in America. Cadillac pioneered a lot of accessories for cars, including the steel roof, the clash-less manual transmission, and full electrical systems. Cadillac created 3 engines. The V8 engine, one of these engines, set the criterion for the American automobile industry.
The brand was created from the remainders of Henry Ford Company at the time that Henry Ford left together with many of his major partners and the corporation was suspended.
Henry Leland founded the company in 1902, a capitalist who knew all about the mechanism of cars. He named the company over his ancestor’s name “Antonie de La Mothe Cadillac”, the founder of Detroit. The first car débuted by Cadillac was Osceola, which can also be called the first ever built concept car for the automobile industry which had a bodied roof and passengers stayed safer by closing the doors and windows. The design of the Osceola was not only admired by the customers, but also became a new trend for other manufacturers of that era.
In 1909, General Motors purchased Cadillac. Cadillac initially began mass production of modern automobiles; they introduced interchangeability, parts accuracy and in the nick of time, became a symbol of the American luxury car. This also includes the popularity of the Model ‘A’ and the ‘30’.
Under General Motors’ innovation and supervision, Cadillac was the first American brand to produce V8 engines installed with a cooling system with thermostat control and the first to present headlights controls in the Dashboard. In the 1930s, Cadillac gained a very strong repute for production power for its V12 and V16 engines having swift performance.
Till the end of World War II, sales of Cadillac boosted and they introduced tailfin models which became the essence of the American automotive way. Upper class customers and movie stars of Hollywood got attracted by Cadillac when models like the Fleetwood El Dorado & the Coupe de Ville launched in the 1960s.
In the 1970s even with smart management, Cadillac’s fate started to undergo hardships due to the huge body types and greater fuel consumption; as the fuel crisis was the major issue. In 1980, it got more inferior as Cadillac introduced a series of low power V8 engines within the next 5 years which were unreliable. It damaged the Cadillac reputation severely as customers stayed dissatisfied
Ongoing in the ‘90s, Cadillac took a main spin and introduced new models with style and immensely enhanced engines. As the new millennium arrived, Cadillac production went more towards styling, including piled headlamps and prominent lines. Its model Evoq, the concept roadster of 1999, was very appreciated with the combination of technology with art. Around the mid 2000s, Cadillac got re-energized with high profits and the Escalade SUV and the CTS sport sedan were launched. Both of these vehicles took the production further ahead, a renowned achievement for Cadillac.
In current times, Cadillac still offers product quality, styling, powerful engines and above all, luxury and smart features in combination.
